Disappointed with Stealth #5 110 (and Buck's QC for recent purchases)

Excitedly opened my 110 today (awesome shipping time by Buck), and knife is way off center and has a little blade rub at the tip. How does this leave the factory like this?

This come on the heels of the BladeHQ 112 that I bought that has some side to side blade play and now the thumbstuds are loose (rattling and spinning freely).

Two AWESOME knives that I love, both in materials and appearance. The inlays in both are great colors/grains, and the blades were ground well, etc. They really make a great pair!

I know that I can send these in and Buck will take care of them. But I struggle with the idea of dropping $325 on two knives that I have to pay to ship back and be without for weeks.

At the price points these versions are, they should have better quality control.

The issues don't prevent me from using them, and I probably will for a bit, but at some point I'll be without them for a while, and that stinks.

end rant (and moreso disappointment)

Sorry to hear this. I’ve read a few comments about those thumb studs coming loose and spinning. It’s the main reason that I haven’t bought a 112 Sport yet.

They really need to change those thumb studs to screw on models that can be tightened by the owner if they start to loosen.

Nice knives but I hope Buck will address these issues with future knives eventually if not sooner.

Contact buck, in my experience, call. Don't email. Free return shipping label will be sent to you. Also, if you really like the wood, try to specify that you want those exact knives back (this will be up to Buck). In my experience (recent BOTM, Limited Editions), Buck just sends a different knife back. And to keep expectations in line, 2 different times on different knives, the knives that came back from Buck were worse than the knives I sent in. 3rd time was the charm Buck fixed the issues. [Side to side blade play, scratches, dents, etc have been the problems]

The thumbstuds should be screw on, or at least be the same sized hole as like common Benchmade ones, so at least you have good aftermarket options.

I like 112's with the clip/studs. I ripped them off a slim select that worked loose. But, I have a 112 slim pro TRX that I have put through the ringer in the last year or so, and they are still solid 🤷‍♂️

I am still waiting on my Dec. 2023 Buck knife of the month. I really hope mine is ok. This thread makes me worry.

The press-fit thumb studs are a weak point on otherwise great knives. I had one come loose and I reattached it with JB weld. My brother still uses it, so my bodge repair is still working.

I have a 110 auto with a half finished frame. One side of the frame has edges almost as sharp as the blade. I haven’t sent it in but also don’t carry it.

Bummer.
And if those are sold out you're not going to get a quick exchange.

One of the things I like most about Buck knives is that people actually put these things together.
Hence the potential for problems.

Fortunately, they're good people and they will take care of it.
None of the run around B.S.
They own their mistakes.

Alas it does take time tho.

Way off center ! Same as your picture; buried against the frame. Opened mine last night, very disappointed. I cleaned a lot of the leftover polishing compound out. Barely moved the blade towards center. Another problem, a small divot in the edge of the bolster. Will be sending back. Rant - Buck should do a better job at cleaning knives at this price point. Leftover compound everywhere inside the knife and around each rivet.

The best thing about buying a Buck knife is they have the best customer service in the business.

Even a standard 110 should be centered, but at least you know they will fix it.

Beautiful wood on your 110 R rival22 .

Make sure to post about the fix once you get it back.

I ordered 2, one is perfect and one just like yours. The blade is literally warped, you can see the warp when you look long way down the blade. not just off center.. hits the frame before it closes. Called Buck this morning and they sent me a call tag. Gave me the option of returning it or fixing it. Told them to fix it. Super easy to deal with.

FYI - We just updated our cleaning process.
I will make sure my crew see this and your knife.

Thanks

Jeff
Great to hear, I also buy a lot of Bucks, both fixed and folders, and many of the folders are coming with closing issues: blade doesn't snap closed when shut, you have to manually to push it in the last 1/4 inch. Sometimes lots of cleaning and oiling fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't. This is true of my custom orders and regular knife purchases. Thank you.
