Disassemble-able 560???

I was talking to WillTheBarb not long ago; he was planning on getting a blade upgrade on his 560...I got to wondering how hard it would be to convert a 560 to screw-together form, like the 186 was...

I don't have a definitive answer yet, but I was wondering if there were any others who think this might be an interesting conversion...

The advantages would be blade interchangeability...You could buy a drop-point 426 on eBay, punch out the plastic handles, and transfer the blade [and probably the rockerbar] to your 560...or buy a cheap [coff*WallyWorld*coff] 110, get a BG-42 or CM154 blade upgrade, punch out the blade pivot pin, and have a premium steel blade for your 560...

The big drawback to converting is the use of 1/8" pins in the 560...You'd have to use some kind of internally threaded stud for one grip half, and a BHCS [or THCS] for the other...or maybe a pressed-in threaded insert instead of the stud...By using a stud (or threaded insert) we'd eliminate the stripped-thread problem that is sometimes mentioned with the 186's threaded Titanium grip half... :p

I'm really just thinking out loud here...Those of us interested would have to find someone skilled enough to do the work...and the required parts...and not charge us a telephone number... :grumpy:

...ummmm...Hmmm???...

That is a really good idea! I would like a Cabela's Alaskan S30V blade.

It would eliminate any chance of striping the threads and even if you did strip threads you could remove the insert press in a new one and your back in business. Most alloy frame semi automatics have a steel insert pressed into the frame for the grip screws to prevent striped threads which works very well. I have swaped grips hundreds of times and have yet to strip any threads.

Deep6Osama - Can you name any brands??? The insert is the big stopping block right now...

I haven't seen any pressed-in grip screw bushings, but them except for .45's and M9's [and .38 S&W's] I haven't had a lot of taking-apart to do on my weapons...and I can't think of any pressed-in bushings...

The M9 AKA 92F should have the bushing. Remove the grips! Here is a schematic of the pistol part number 46
