Disassembling fixed blade knives?

Has anyone here ever tried disassembling the Buck #119 to replace the phenolic handle with another type of material? If you have done this. What steps are involved? I would like to use the Buck blade for the foundation for a really nice looking knife. I`m not saying that the phenolic handle is bad or anything. I just think an elk or whitetail antler would look oh so cool attached to a Buck blade. So does anyone have some input. Thanks. Oh and by the way this site is "Sharp".

Welcome to BladeForums, Tucker!

There's one thread that I know about that discusses the removal of a 119 Special's handle and pommel. Basically, the original handle and pommel will be destroyed in the process.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the welcome guys and for the quick info. This site has a lot to offer and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.

As for removing the handle, I kinda figured I would have to destroy it. Hoped not to. Thought maybe a grinder would do it but maybe I`ll try finding the pin and punch it out so I can possibly save the pommel. Thanks again guys.

Every thing is glued together with epoxy, so removing the pin won't 'cut' it. :)
Pretty much the only thing savable is the blade, most time the guard and butt trim is ruined also..

Welcome to the forums,

Jeff
