I picked up a CQC-2K the other day as my first EDC knife. Wonderful little inexpensive thing. The problem is, after a few days of breaking it in, I can't get the darned thing apart for cleaning, which is weird because I know the actual Emersons are supposed to easy to take apart. I'm getting the classic Kershaw syndrome where the pivot pin doesn't unscrew, just spinning endlessly as you turn it.
I've tried some of the solutions posted here and on YouTube to no avail. I've tried :
- pressign the knife to a table to engage the pin and then trying to unscrew it
- heating it up with my 25w soldering iron, then tried pressing the knife to the table again and unscrewing
- taking a clamp to the knife (one pad larger than the other so I can still access the screw), and unscrewing
- clamping the knife down, jamming a padded flat head between the pivot side and blade, twisting, and then unscrewing
The fact that it's an Emerson makes it more problematic than a usual kershaw, since the pins are flat head (my screwdriver has been camming out) and there is only tip up carry (No using the pocket clip to sandwich something onto the pin). The tightest I got it was putting the flat head between the blade and pivot side. I actually started to strip out the flat head screw at this point, and I've held off since.
Does anyone else know of other ways I can try to get around this?
