disassembling SOG flash--bad idea?

I recently got some sand in my Flash II. I tried rinsing it out but there's still some in there. Does anyone know whether opening it up will screw up the assisted opening mechanism? I don't mind voiding the warranty. Thanks for your help!

If you are mechanically inclined, you can probably do it... the trick will be putting it back together...;) :p
I understand there are a couple of very small parts which are easy to lose, and fiddley to re-assemble.

That being said, yes you can do it, but you might void your warranty. ;)

You can take it apart, but be aware that
there's a very small ball bearing and spring used as a detent for the lock.
Do it on a table that has been cleared and has a white table cloth or white paper on it. Take it apart slowly, and put everything you remove into a white bowl. If you're not mechanically inclined, have a digital camera ready and take a couple of shots for reference after you remove the top handle.

P.S. The smaller Flash I cannot be taken apart because SOG didn't include a key for the keyway on the pivot bushing. The parts are extremely small!

Sorry I haven't responded.

No, I haven't tried to take it apart yet. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I've been putting it off. I've washed most of the sand out, but the lock is still sticky, and I'm concerned all the washing has rusted some internal parts. I'll get to it soon, and get some help from a friend who's better at these kinds of things.

Thanks for all the tips!
