Hi all,

Can the Chinook II be disassembled without voiding warranty? Specifically I would like to get the liners and back spacer coated black (like of moly coating used in firearms)?

Or can you only remove the G-10 scales... the pics in my catalog show a torx head construction...

Cheers,

You would void the warranty if you take apart your Chinook, Daniel. I don't have the exact words from the Spyderco catalog but, if you'd like, I can scan a pic from it for your information.

What you could try and do is contact Mike, at Spyderco Warranty and Repair(800-525-7770), and see if he would be able to get those parts coated for you, maybe from the same guys that coat some Spyderco blades(?).

Not too sure on that though, but hey, you never know unless you ask. ;)

I just read the warranty statement in the backof my catalog and “alteration” does void the warranty.

That being said, is it still possible to disassemble the Chinook down to seprate the liners and backspacer? Any Chinook II owners out there?

I probably wont do it, but I'll admit I thought it would look cool with some filework on the backspacer.

I haven't done it yet, but I am betting you should be able to. It would seem a little costly to use screws just to hold the scales on and not permit the knife to be disassembled. Rivets would be much cheaper.

That being said, you obviously disassemble at your own risk. I'll be taking that risk this weekend, when I get the time.:)
