Hello all,

I will probably be buying an EDC soon. Has anyone taken theirs apart to clean and lube?

I was curious to see if this was possible, and what difficulties I might encounter in dissasembly and re-assembly.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

:)

I have disassembled my 154CM EDC,

a potential problem you might encounter (one that I definetely did) is that the pivot pin is a U.S. sized hex, the frame pins are metric hexes, and the clip pins are torx - took me a while to get all the wrenches and drivers I needed, also please note that when removing the frame pins, they come out CLIP SIDE, so you have to remove the clip to remove the forward frame pin.
Hope this helps!

I'd say shoot it with brake cleaner and avoid the hassle of taking it apart. It'll work like a charm, and you won't have to worry about stripped heads.

Just a suggestion of course.

I've developed a little bit of play in my 6 month old EDC. When I tried to gently tighten the pivot, I couldn't budge it. It's as if there is some factory applied Loctite in there and I'm a little afraid to break it free, thinking I'll alway be having to tighten it back up.

Is there Loctite applied at the factory? Will I damage anything if I apply more force to the fastener? How much blade play is too much?

I know that last question alone has been the subject of a lot of discussion.

Thanks folks.

Can't speak for anyone else but . . .
Taking my talonite edc apart was a bear! I wanted to do some "customizing" and literally had to take a torch to the spacers to burn the loctite out. I tried acetone, and a solder gun but neither worked. Had to heat the screws with a propane torch till a little puff of smoke showed that the loctite had burned. Now it still works like a dream. Mind you, I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS . . . just stating MY experience. They are GREAT knives!
:D :D

They ARE loctited, my old Special Edition 154CM EDC (which I had to send in and was replaced with a new, superior, Enhanced 154CM EDC) took some stubborn pressure to loosen them pins, but I never needed anything beyond the allen wrench, perhaps the Loctite is stronger in newer models.
