Benchmade and Allen Elishewitz clearly state that they will not cover any knife after they have been disassembled. Anyone else have the same policy?

Camillus. It's a CYA (Cover Your A$$) thing, that way if they get back a piece with a bunch of stripped screws and missing pieces they don't have to fix it. Sometimes they do it anyway just to keep the customer happy, but most of the time if you take it apart and screw it up you're SOL.

 Do you mean do they fix it? Sometimes they will, in my experience, it just costs you a little bit since you screwed it up.

Microtech put those wierd alien screws on their knives in an attempt to stop the owners from opening them up, messing them up, and then sending them in for warranty repair. I know it is a double edged sword.
Probably no different that taking your cars engine apart and then taking all the pieces in a big box to the dealer and asking them to fix it under warranty.

So if the knife is taken apart, then you pay for the damage, the original warranty will cover it the next time you send it in?
