DISCO is evil

Somebody put the Discontinue Genie back in the bottle please. I was interested in the 4 for a while, and then it goes disco--and then on sale, which is a potent combination. I was doing some yard work with it last weekend and thought, "This is tedious, nasty work, but when I get to play with my toys I have a great time." I then free associate to how I could probably use a 15 in the kitchen instead of my wife's Henckels, but only if I do it soon. Funny how you never notice the slippery slope until reaching terminal velocity . The 15 isn't even here yet and I start thinking that the 5 is going away too, and it's also one I have wanted for a while. Fortunately, my needs are covered enough that I can resist and finally get a new belt sander fund started, but the power of "discontinued" may yet make me do something I might regret (in the short term anyway). Stop tugging on my emotional hindbrain, it's not fair! On the bright side, this weekend I can take the 4 out again and finish off all the Black Sage and assorted scrub in my yard. It may be disco, but the precision chopping power makes me feel like a manly gardener.

Discontinued very powerful word . I now have 4s 5s and 15s that For the most part would not have . But it's funny I'am glad they lowered the price so much I couldn't resist . Now I have to say they alll are AWSOME ! At any price !

They discontinue the 5? :-o
For real, or will it be back, just with a different coating or something?

(2) BK15 - (2) BK4 - (1) BK5 but buying a backup ASAP. Yep, they got me too with discontinued.

well, at least until they release better versions?

imagine a BK5 with a squared spine, maybe SLIGHTLY rounded.

in s30v :D

or a Thicker Machax... heavier. SQUARE SPINE LIKE GOD INTENDED.

mmm

i can dream

Wow this thread is like a painful look into a mirror!

In the last couple months the DISCO monster forced me to buy (1)BK10, (2)BK5, (2)BK15, (3)BK4, and one more BK2 just because it was on sale......................and a BK2.

So yeah, I understand your "terminal velocity" reference.

Seriously, the great Blahdeete has it right. Once those lines are gone it opens up a whole new range. Jerry Fisk designed the 5 (which is just a big 15) so do you think all that AWESOME work would go to waste? A re-engineered BK4? Bring it on! I have a 4, a 5 and a 15. Only one of each. This WILL last me a lifetime. Guaranteed. If they release different versions of these or different models altogether well then, KABAR...

I got a couple of each. I'd really like a few more 15's but the availability has dropped and pricing is increased accross the board. At one time they could be had -$40 free sh/h...now about all I can find is +$50 and sh/h is give or take...

The 15 is a lot more then I ever thought it would be as is the 5 and 4 . It just go's to show don't judge a book by it's cover is true with knives to .

Oh, to hell with it. I guess I don't need a new belt sander that much when sandpaper is cheap and elbow grease will still get the job done. Eventually. There won't always be a 5 around with my name on it and regret is a terrible thing.

How is the 15 better than the 5? More pocketable?

You may have misunderstood xr6x's statement. He was saying the 15 along with the 4 and 5 are all much better than imagined based on looks and not having handled one in the past....

Oh. I guess I just saw what I wanted to see.
I'm still looking at the 15 and 5 and can't decide thus anything comparing the 2 might be useful.
Now after reading it again, yeah. Duh to self.

Nah, I get it, that's how I picked up on it lol. Maybe this will help?

I've modified the scales but you can get a view of the size difference.
If ya ask me, start with the 15 then grab the 5 when ur ready for a big Blade. Lots of folks use the 5 for kitchen duty, I suspect because they have a 9 or 4 for heavy duty chores.
There's a 3 year review of the 5 where its put thru paces the way the good Lord intended it to be used. I'll edit the link in when I find it.
