Discontinued G-10 Navigator v. New Slotted Almite Navigator...

I already own a G-10 Navigator and it is definitely one of my favorite small-carry knives. It feels so solid for a little knife, and the handle is ultra-comfotable for its natural grip-position.

However, I keep looking at the new slotted Almite-handle Navigator and I keep wondering...

Which would you guys rather have? The new Almite design looks extremely attractive. Is G-10 more expensive, exclusive and solid handle material than Almite? Which handle material is better overall?

Thanks,

-Flood

I prefer the Almite Navigator, but then that's the only one I have

. G10 is an excellent material for "tactical" knives but I think Almite is more suitable for a "gentleman's" knife like the Navigator.

I have to agree with Clay. The almite handle is a much more gentlemens base, but that's looks alone,I myself am waiting for the meerkat for my small carrier, right now it's a cricket, but it soon will be replaced when they start shipping meerkats

Someday my friends ,I'll own em all

I too only own the almite version. I like it very well. It is an attractive knife and it feels good in my hand.

I've never cared for g10. I just don't like the way it feels.

I own both an almite and a G-10 Navigator. While they both have their own merits I to prefer the almite handle. Don't get me wrong the g-10 is great with a pair of jeans or such but for my day to day carry in dress pants and overall feel I like the almite a little more. Just my 2 cents worth.

What about the grip? Do you feel that the almite and G10 on the Navigator offer an equally secure grip? Thanks,

Wouter

Wouter,

The Navigator's superb grip is a result of it's shape. I don't think the material would make much difference, although the slots in the Almite model do help.

I agree with Clay. But I also own a solid almite navigator and it feels just as good in the hand. However I have not used it on a hard basis to cause it to become slippery or anything. I think the handle shape has a big part of how this knife feels, it feels like a bigger knife in hand. Overall great design and great knife no matter which handle.

I'm looking to get one of the new slotted almite Navigators with a plain edge, but darned if I can find anyone that has them in stock... Were they a limited run that I missed out on?

Hey FrankC-
No they are not a limited run. They were an experimental run for awhile. They were called SP-99 ans SP-100 but now they are regular production from spyderco under the C62 designation. Spyderco has them on their website, check it out.

The G10 Navigator (plainedge) has been my "Airline" knife for years...
Here is a scan of the Almite & G10 versions.

Very nice! Has potential to replace my lightweight Dragonfly for my daily carry knife when wearing slacks (in jeans I have a 440v Native for that role).

Now if I can only find one.

Frank C.,

I got my almite navigator from bladeart. Excellent service. Got my knife quickly. This was several months ago, but you might want to contact them.

Yep - Bladeart had 'em. Should have one in my pocket early next week.
