Apologies if this has been asked before or I missed a thread regarding this topic.

Does anyone know if Spyderco offers a way to get a hold of discontinued models directly from them? Recently stumbled upon the Kumo and absolutely love it (big fan of Japanese style knives) and was heart broken to find out its discontinued :(

If there is a thread for this topic I missed let me know and Ill look there. Thank you!

No, not that I know of. They will occasionally rerelease a discontinued or limited model like they did recently with a particular Catcherman. Your best bet is to look for it on the secondary market. I've found a lot of previously discontinued models on here and other places for reasonable prices.

Put a want to buy up in the exchange here. You literally just missed one this fall.

Good luck finding a Kumo ;-)

An option with "some" similarity, with regard to your comments, might be a First Strike. Originally a Taiwan produced model, then switched over to cheaper China production. This knife was originally produced with a Hamaguri Grind (appleseed/convex). Here's a reference pic of mine for illustration. CRKT originally produced these Hamaguri ground knives with fairly thick/obtuse cutting edges (I have thinned the edge here in preparation to finish with a thinner Hamaguri grind than was factory to improve the cutting ability of the edge).

Don't mean to "derail" this Spyderco thread, just thought I'd show what I did to check out this style of knife.
The China versions can typically be found pretty easy and cheaply.

Another option.... I was just checking out the " Fixed Blade " section of exchange here. There is a knife eriely similar to the Kumo listed as Japanese Wrap and Kydex. Check it out.
