I was just wondering how long ago the aluminum handled Cricket was discontinued. I've seen it, but I can't find one to buy anywhere. Everyone just lists it as discontinued (although everyone seems to use the description from the Spyderco site which said available with aluminum handles). I was also hoping someone could tell me why it was discontinued.

I like the look of the aluminum much better than the carbon fiber version, and I'd think they'd be similar from a weight standpoint. Additionally, I believe that the aluminum handle was less expensive as well. (I don't like the zytel [sp?] handles – I like stainless or aluminum.)

In my searching, I've run across several people who have said, "if you find any, please let me know – I've been looking too."

If anyone can answer these questions, I'd appreciate it.

Roger at Milarm.com has very many discontinued modes. He operation center is in Edmonton so shipping may be more expensive.

RacerX - Welcome to the Spyderco forum. thanx for the time and effort to post.

The aluminum version was a pilot for the lightweight version. had to work out the glitches on the linerlock before molding plastic. The lite weight version is a lighter, smaller package with less opportunity for any potential problems. And it is less expensive.

Sal,

I'm looking at an aluminum Cricket that I've found (new) from a site on the internet. Personally, I prefer the looks of the aluminum handles better than the carbon fiber (or the xytel), and the alum. is definitely a lot less expensive.

Not to put you on the spot, but if you were in my place, would you have any reservation about getting the alum version (are there any issues with the liner lock)?

Thanks.
