Stopped by the Buck factory this morning and dropped off some knives for warrenty work. Before I left I peeked into the factory store to say hi and see what they had for build outs and blems. However, what really caught my attention was the case of discontinued knives. My heart sank when I saw the Gen 5, Bravo, Raven Legancy, and of course the Nighthawk (which we knew about) amongst others being discontinued. My warrenty work should be ready on Wed so I may have to pick up a Gen 5 before they get scarce. All the discontinued models were discounted 40% off MSRP and I can get an additional 10% military discount off that.

Man,if the gen 5 is being discontinued,it isn't going to become a classic like the 110,which is what i figured would happen, that lirttle knife is awesome, surprised more folks didn't take to it?Maybe more advertising was needed.I would never part with mine.

Wow, they discontinued the Gen 5? I think that's a slick knife and I just ordered the Stag version. Might have to pick up one of the 154 CM versions before it's gone or too pricey. Thanks for the heads up!

Maybe the new 113 Ranger is taking it's place.

Dang Colt, how cool is that to be able to just stop by the Buck factory store.:cool:I'm surprised as well about the Gen 5.:eek:Did they have the Hood knife yet?Buck gives a military discount.:D

I try and stop by about once a month to see what they have. They give a 40% discount at the factory store, and 10% off the discontinued stuff for military. I told them I was retired and was told if I have a military ID I can get the discount, which I do. I can get a Gen 5 for about $54 with ID sales tax. I did'nt see the Hoodlum knife, but IIRC you could only order the TOPS version from Ron Hood's website and not directly from TOPS so It may be that way with the Buck version. I'm not too excited about the Hoodlum knife as I'm not a huge fan of Ron Hood.

For those of us who can't get to the Buck store, don't dispair. 40% off is good, but it can be matched by alot of places on the web.
The charcoal Gen 5 should be $56.40 at the store and I've easily found them for $54 to $56 (right this minute) delivered on the web and there's no tax.

Having brought that up, I have to say I'd be more than willing to pay a premium price just to be able to visit Buck!

Flatlander sold me a NIB first edition Gen-5 signed by Josh Buck, the one with snakewood scales and 154CM steel. It was very generous of Gordon, he could have sold it for a lot more. I'm very glad to have it and glad that I haven't used it. I need to pick up a user while I can.

Now I gotta run out and get a Gen 5 or two. Those knives are just too handsome not to have in the safe.

Here's my Gen 5's. I'm pretty sure I also have the elk handled one with the elks "scrimshawed" on the handles too, but I can't locate it. I know I don't have the charcoal version, so it's off to shop for one of them.

Were there any other versions (except for the Yellowhorse one's) that Buck produced?

Could be. While the Gen 5 is a nice looking knife, they never really grabbed me.
I am going to be very surprised ,if the 113 doesn't sell well. I know for sure I'm going to order one, probably this weekend :D

Very few new knives make me take notice and say, I have got to have one.
The 113 certainly did though

I wonder why one of the blades is etched with "G-FIVE" (3rd knife down) and the rest are "GEN 5". Could it be a mistake? Do you know?
No that's the "first edition", the snakewood one.

To answer Plum's question, I think I've seen a black handled one, but that may be what you mean by the charcoal one. I thought it was phenolic.

There hasn't ever been one in the catalog that was phenolic. The black handled one is Charcoal Dymondwood as shown here in the 2008 catalog. If there is a phenolic model out there, I'l love to find one.

This is the Gen 5 I bought at the factory store from the discontinued case:

Came to just under $50 with Mil discount and ID sales tax. It is the charcoal wood version. I looked for a stag & rosewood model but they did'nt have any in the store. I am really hoping I'll see some cool build outs of the Gen 5 later this year at the factory sale.
