Maybe I haven't been around the industry long enough, but I really do hate hearing that a favorite model has been "discontinued."

There are some knives I've really liked (AFCK 806D2, for example), and to find out that they're no longer being made gets me down. Kinda like finding out that your favorite childhood hangout is now a parking lot. Leaves you feeling kinda empty.

I've seen some favorite models come and go: some I purchased, some I wish I had, some I was PLANNING on purchasing but missed the chance.

What are some knives that you guys actually MISS?

The ONE model I really miss, more than anything: The Camillus OVB Fisk Bowie. When that knife came out, it was a time when production bowies were competitive and of great quality. I do own a couple of them, but not seeing them on ebay or on the forums makes me feel like a wonderful period in my knife-hoarding days is long, long gone, and will never come back. :(

how about the benchmade skirmish?! if knives are selling well, why mess with that?
damn corporate America

Knives are discontinued when it is no longer cost effective to make them. Even if the knife sells well, relatively speaking, it may be the case that it costs so much to make that knife that it simply is not good business to produce the item at a loss (or at no profit).

could be, but rare is the knife which is selling like hotcakes which is disco'd,

i know some knives made primarily of Ti were disco'd when to got so expensive,

Too many Schrade USA and Camillus knives to list.

They weren't technically discontinued, but when their parent companies went belly-up.....

Besides those, a lot of BG-42 bladed knives (Buck custom, Sebenza, etc) are no longer available.

Don't give up hope. I was sad when Gerber discontinued the original Paul knife, and now Lone wolf is making them. There's always a chance your favorite discontinued knife will resurface.

Your original example (806D2) is the one that immediately comes to mind for me as well. Raise the cost if you must, but keep it available. That was a great knife that routinely sells for double the original price on the evil bay these days.

Spyderco once made a dive knife that was amazing. It had a 3' blade and foot long stainless steel handle/probe that looked like a pry bar. I saw it on sale for $30, but was in broke ass junior high school student at the time.

The Cuda Maxx 5.5 has always been a favorite design of mine.

Almost all of Benchmade's balisong line went out of production before I began collecting. The Spyderco Kerambit and Dodo among others.

While we're talking about things we want but can't have, I'd love a few Microtech OTFs but they're illegal here. Oh well, that's more money that goes to balis.
