Discount online gear suppliers?

is REI-outlet.com better than their stores? Because I've never been impressed with their prices. I can get the same tent at a United store for $100 less than at REI. Their other stuff was similarly marked up.

REI-Outlet rocks. Even though you don't get the same selection as the regular REI site, the prices can be much lower. You have to check often to get what you want.

www.altrec.com can have good prices and has a good selection.

REI-outlet is cheaper than their stores. I figure it's about the same as Sierra Trading Post for price and selection.

There is also an REI.com but it sells stuff at the same price as the stores (usually too much).

Here is one you might try, their catalogs are free, of course' and they have some real good genuine military surplus items from around the world ( including the U.S.A. ) : www.sportsmansguide.com Their prices are unbelievable for the quality.

Campmor, Sierra Trading Post both have good prices. REI has a great selection but I have no experience with them. A friend of mine loved REI until he saw Campmor. Then, he switched... That tells me something. I had a Campmor in reasonable driving distance but no REI, and preferred to see what I bought so went there always.
Brigade Quartermasters is a mil surplus store but sells many things useful for camping such as Wiggy's sleeping bags. I tried once and liked their service.
