Hi everybody.

I'm working on a new Discovery Channel series about a guy who builds giant swords. We need an avid and interesting knife-collector who can "play" the part of the customer for a pocket knife-inspired build. We just need to shoot a conversation between you and the man building the sword over Skype. You'd need:

  • Webcam
  • Skype
  • Impressive knife-collection ideal
  • Willingness to be on-camera
  • Sign an appearance release

"Filming" would take place next week (week of 7/28) and would only require an hour or two of your time. The episode airs on the Discovery Channel on December 30th of this year. There is no pay but I suppose bragging rights might be worth something.

If you're interested, please e-mail me a couple photos of yourself and your knife collection, your availability next week, and contact information (phone, e-mail, etc.).

My e-mail is kwarnecke (at) thinkfactorymedia.com

Thanks very much!

So you make money and you want me to do it for FREE ???

So this guy that the show is about builds "giant" swords? How much larger than regular old swords are giant swords? Like 20 feet long or something?

And let's see - you don't actually have a real customer who wants to order a sword that looks like a pocket knife. You've invented this scenario, and you are looking for an amateur to play the part of someone who wants the sword. This person will be reading a script pretending to want to place the order.

On a TV show. For free. On a commercial channel.

Rather than paying an actual actor, which is kind of their job. You know, to read scripts on TV shows that portray a fictional situation.

So as long as you slap the "reality TV" label on shows, it's OK to avoid paying wages for what sounds to me like actual acting? Screen Actors Guild must have lost a lot of their clout.

Let me get this straight.

You want a Sword Maker known for large swords to build you slip joint?

And you want a knowledgeable knife collector to pretend to be the guy who orders this custom knife form said Sword maker?

Have I got that right?
