simatalu: house of spirits...

"the indonesian siberut people are profiled, focusing on the shamanistic aspects of their society"...

there's a festival of sorts being documented. lots of knives and edged things used to prepare and work.

MANY western style axes - sharp - with standard handles. all kinds of bolo looking things, a golok or two with recurved handles, something machete like - very nuanced - couldn't tell you either way.

blade heaven :)

i THOUGHT it was the discovery channel...

it's more like "the travel channel" with a spinning discovery channel like planet. tricky.

warning: "this program contains indigenous nudity" and they ain't kidding.

It is coming back to the Travel Channel April 29th. Have set TIVO.

"Nudity" at least of the upper part of the bodies was common in Indonesia because they believe that this is more clean than women wearing tops. In the past women were considered vulgar and low-class to wear anything that covered their breasts.

I like that. Works for me!

Below the waist line was considered "Mali" or bad/unclean and kept covered. No good Indonesian, particularly Balinese, maybe Javanese would walk under a closeline, under clothing, particulalry anything that covered the lower body.
