OK, for those of you who live in a cave on Mars and haven't heard about this show, SEE IT NOW!

This is, without any doubt, the single coolest nature show/series ever. 5 years worth of footage of the most extreme places on the planet showing stuff never filmed before. The things they show defy belief and you get chills of awe every minute.

They've shown 3 episodes already, and they're running 2 more each Sunday until all 11 are show. If you miss some, be assured that it'll be rerun (also on Discovery Science channel).

SEE IT NOW!

I was flipping through channels and came across it. Planet Earth - WOW. Every single piece of footage is absolutely breathtaking in its beauty.

Some of the footage was done using a newly invented stabalized camera mount on helicopters.

No joke, every single segment is jaw-droppingly beautiful.

I really have enjoyed this series so far! It even impressed my wife, which is sometimes hard to do with these kinds of shows. -Matt-

It seems the focus in the last few years on Discovery and TLC has been on biker build offs and hot rod shows. They are OK but I prefer the nature and science.
I am involved with a production company that has two projects here in Alaska one for the History Channel and the other for the National Geographic Channel. At this time my part is small but it might develop into my dream job. I have a friend who is working on a reality show that will be shown on Discovery about some families coming to Alaska and spending a year homesteading.
With every thing being done in HD the equipment is very expensive.

This is due to the split-off channels. Discovery used to have the whole range of history, space, nature, war, etc. But now they have Animal Planet, Discovery Time (used to be Civilization), Home, Science, Kids, Health, and Military. For a while the actual Discovery Channel seemed to be floundering with obscure shows, but they've come into their own again in the past couple years with their new shows. They do seem to be a little more character/reality oriented, but that's the state of all TV these days.

BTW, I was discussing this show on another forum (gaming), and it turns out that this show was aired last year in the UK narrated by David Attenborough. I wish they aired this version in the US; nature programs always sound better when narrated by an Englishman.

Planet Earth is wonderful. I've been a fan of nature documenteries since I was a kid with Disney's the "Living Desert".

The photography is simply amazing. I don't have HD as yet, and watching these programs are the first time I've really wished I had it.
