Hello!

Looking for EDC:

  • blade color preferably black, dark; plain edge
  • blade length no more than 3-1/2" or 90 mm
  • handle color black, micarta, FRN or other
  • overall slim design
  • black and discreet pocket-clip, like on Benchmade Snipe or BM 470 - Osborne Emissary, so knife is deep inside pocket
  • linerlock, framelock or axislock but not backlock design
  • one-hand opening: thumbstud or hole
  • price range 50-250$

As you can see, I am looking for slim, black, discreet folder.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Depending on where you plan on carrying, an uncoated blade may raise fewer eyebrows...looks less"tactical".

Maybe the Al Mar SERE 2000 (tip-up only) or the Al Mar Nomad (tip-down only) ? Both have blade lengths of 3 inches and VG-10 steel.

My Blur doesn't have anything close to a discreet clip.

Here's two from my collection that fit your specifications:

-- Extrema Ratio BF1CD, a lovely Italian import, hard-use but light-weight, liner lock with black-coated, 2.8-inch, N690 blade and black anodized aluminum handles. When the knife is in your pocket, only the clip is visible. (Double thumb studs and fun to open and close!) $130-$150 street price.

-- For about $100 less, check out Benchmade's H&K Mini Ascender, a black, 2.9- inch drop-point blade with black G10 handles, jimping and double thumb studs. This Chinese made knife is stylish and a real sleeper. Smooth opening liner lock with a deep-pocket clip no one will believe is attached to a knife.

For harder use and something heavier but still fairly discreet, there's the Buck Vantage Force Avid. All black with an opening hole, tough as nails tactical knife, 3.25- inch Sandvik blade, with a clip that looks like there's anything but a knife in your pocket.

I think that if low key is what you're going for all black sort of counters that. A black blade screams "tactical" and really does very little to increase the knife's discreteness. Ditto that on the handle. If you want low key, go with something that looks like the knife someone's grandpa carried, case makes the trapper lock, it looks very traditional and less threatening than any full black knife, but is one hand useable, in your length range, and does come with black handles.

I like the Benchmade 943 Osborne, but the pocket clip isn't particularly deep carry. It could possibly be modified.

My new favorite is the Boker Anti - Grav. The ceramic blade looks much more black in person, like black glass.

i wear button downs and carry a zt0300 in my front pocket. or i carry it on my belt for added discreetness.

or if discreet is your mission just carry it in pocket and carry whatever knife you like.

some of my most discreet knives i will never carry because i need a practical usable knife
