I used to live out in a rural area where no one even glanced sideways at my endura, now i live in a more urban environment and need a smaller edc knife to take all the abuse my enduras did, and not leave me feeling unprepared.

Ive been using a salt 1 but its well over due for retirement, so im trying to decide what to get.

I like H1 alright and want to try a hawkbill so the tasman salt is in the mix, but im playing with the idea of buying the waved delica and a full serrated one. the putting the ffg on the black handles, the wave on the green and the se on the urban shadow grey. the ss delica is also in the running. Im kind of a spydieknut

but iv never taken apart a knife b4 so i have no idea of how difficult it will be. but it is worth it to get the color combos.

im also open to suggestions. What knives do you carry when you want to fly under the radar and yet still have a stout knife.

I dont want to say tactical, but im planning on carrying it 6 out of 7 days a week and it would need to fill most roles. and hopefully not much more than $100 but preferably 50. bc there is a very good chance it might be lost/stolen/destroyed.

check out the kershaw skyline. it is compact, and yet packs a blade that seems much more heavy duty than it's 3 1/4 inch length. it slices like a beast, and takes an absolutely amazing edge. it is comfortable, USA made, and, best of all, 35 bucks.

If the Endura worked for you, why not keep using it?

If you must go smaller, buy the same flavor in the Delica line.

The Delicia is the same as the Endura just smaller, no complaints about it. The Skyline is a good choice, carried one for about 2 years. Had no problems cutting just about anything from nylon webbing to MRE packs during earthquake relief in Haiti. I am a fan of a spearpoint type blade for some reason. Seems stronger maybe??

The Spyderco Para-Military 2 is just a fantastic knife. Bigger than a Delica, but a little smaller than an Endura... certainly worth a look!

Good luck! :)

+1 on this or the Kershaw scamp is geat for under $20. I use it all the time and keeps a wicked edge.

The Salt I has been my EDC of choice this summer: It's small, light-weight, has a ti clip and oversized Spydie hole -- and, of course, rust proof.

The I, the Tasman Salt, the Delica and the Delica Wave are all short enough to carry in your pocket discreetly, if that's your concern. The G10 Delica is another good choice.

As for the Skyline, love it and have three. But I can't imagine it for heavy duty.

If you're a Spyderco fan, the Sage1 or Caly3cf with wire clips both ride pretty low and the clip isn't as noticeable as the flat steel ones. I wish every knife came with Spyderco's wire clip.

My main concern is drawing attention to the knife. I go to alot of parties and clubs on the week ends. mostly i go with no blades but i constantly run into moments where i need one. I do lean towards larger knives. It fits my hands better and i love the heft haha. If i pull out my scary ce ss endura, not only will it scare all the girls off, it would cause a ruckess for no reason. most ppl who know me are used to it, but strangers? thats why i want to put a thicker blade on a colored handle. full serrated or the waved, peoples reaction will be indifferent to think that it is cute. and yet it would have plenty of testicular fortitude where it counts. haha.

I havent had any run ins with the police but if one where to happen i just feel like he will look at my endura and think i walk around all day with bad intentions.

ive tried to talk to a few of them when i see one in a store and ask him what knife he is carrying. the standard response is either "a dull one" or "a sharp one" and they just generally seem like they want to pretend your not there until someone screams and you take off running. so i dont know how they feel about knives.

but the cricket and hawk lady bugs, or dragon fly (probably h1 bc i like the wire clip) would certainly put up a very good fight against a delica, idk if the lady bugs have a clip on them but if the dont i wont carry it, just like mt slipoints

I had a skyline once, snagged it from walmart for 20 or so, that was when they first came out i believe. I gifted it and my needs work because i was so impressed with my salt 1 haha. but i never have picked one up for myself, same with the byrd line. all that i have bought have been gifted.

I think anything with a 2 1/2" blade would be fine. Check out the buck alpha dorato. I own it and no one ever flinches. If you really want to be PC then get a victorianox.

Why not move the Endura to IWB and keep it for 'hairy situations' and then find something 'cute' and inexpensive for pocket carry. If the Endura works for you, don't leave it home, just carry/use it in a different way. Just my $.02

I recently was faced with the same delima of downgrading knife size for a more discrete carry. I looked at the Spyderco Ambitious but wanted a little better steel. Spyderco also makes the Urban, Chicago, and Cat. I ended up going with the Cat that has a blade just shy of 2.5" and comes in 440C steel. Still haven't got it in the mail yet so I hope I made a good choice. Spyderco does have options since you already like them.

I've always been a big fan of the Spyderco Tasman Salt. I have owned a yellow-slabbed Tasman for a couple years now. I got this in yellow because I wanted to "hide it in plain sight" and have found that the yellow screams "tool" to people compared to something in black.

It mostly sits in my office drawer now and the office ladies ask me to borrow "that yellow knife" whenever they need to open a box.

How about one of the Sage knives? Size isn't far off from the delica, nice broad s30v blade, the deep carry clip is superb, and you have a few options for scale/lock material. The blue one looks really nice and non threatening too.

I feel the sage will lack in tip strength. i want a thicker blade than the sage series has. Iv narrowed it down to two knives, (sort of): A ss pe delica4 vs se frn delica 4, and the harpy se vs tasman salt se. Im leaning towards se frn d4 and then a harpy.

I agree, why not just carry 2 knives? Get a ladybug or a nice looking classic slip joint, and keep the Endura hidden. If you don't mind me asking, what city are you in now? It would help us make suggestions that stay within the law.

Emerson LaGriffe if I'm being discreet, but the stand by folder option is a mini grip or delica. Ideally a dragonfly, but I haven't picked one up yet.

Discrete and complete EDC for me would entail 3 things.
Reliable.
Zero telltale tactical touches. Instead, elegant and understated. A gentleman's pocketknife.
Clip.
Edit: Not trying to sound superior. But there are actually many surprisingly reliable, small and handsome folders out there. I tend to gravitate toward those. Spyderco's polished CF/laminated ZDP Caly 3 come to mind.
2nd edit: And yes I have to agree that a clip IS tactical but...it wouldn't be COMPLETE without it for me. (After all fine pens have had them since I can remember.)

A coated blade will be less noticable across a dimmly lit bar (and most other places) than bare polished steel. -Just a thought.
I also like the two knife idea. Vic Classic on a keychain is "normal" to all. Little do they know, or need to know, about the Rajah-2 on your hip.
