Hi. Someone in my household washed my Wustof Grand Prix II knife in the dishwasher and now the synthetic handle is faded from the alkaline in the soap and the harshness of the water. Before replacing the knife, is there a home remedy anyone can recommend that will bring some of the color back?

Thanks!

hmmm....polypropylene is supposed to be pretty resistant to fading.

Is it maybe just a residue that could be polished off...??

Strange. Wüsthof states its knives - excepted the Ikon with the wooden handles - are technically dishwasher safe, although they advice for well known reasons washing by hand.
If Kalaeb's suggestion doesn't work, I would return it. I'm pretty sure Wüsthof will replace.

I would suggest cleaning it as well. There are any number of chemicals that are good at cleaning plastic. Try vinegar if you think the residue is from the soap or water. I've always found Armorall and a nylon brush useful for cleaning plastic, just make sure you wash it before use.

Tru Oil is for wood and I think it would just get sticky or make a mess on plastic.
