Disk grinder with or without backing?

I have some cork backing on my aluminum disk and I sometimes feel that it gives me less than a perfect flat finish. So what do you guys like better? Feel free to elaborate.

i am using 1/16 cork gasket. I think it is giving a good flat finish.

Hellow Patrice.
I recommend a bare disc. The cork or whatever will just reverse the results you are looking for. I had three going at one time. I used 3M spray on glue and removed that with varsol and then a quick wipe with acetone. Can. Tire tool and parts cleaner will do a great job amd can be used on everything including ivory. Frank

Thanks Frank, I'll give the bare disk a try. On the poll, the vote is split so it's more a matter of the operator than the machine I guess.
