This is next project and I think it would work...for me at least . I will make it anyway but I would like to hear what you think about that .
This idea come to me from this thread https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/curved-plunge.1917736/page-3
I grind bevels in hardened 52100 steel with ONE pieces of AO sand paper with 7centimeters Dia !! So far I grind some kitchen knives on my big disk sanders , but on normal one .They have some advantage but also it has flaws ......
This one disk I am sure will solve flaws .....I will use 30 cm .Dia disk on 2hp 2800 Rpm motor and VFD control so I can get *quiet* 60 , 70 m/s speed on sandpaper and 4 inch wide *belt* . Bonus is nicely curved plunges :)

So what do you think ?

I thought I have seen YouTube videos of Nick Wheeler with a hollowed out disk?
I could be mistaken, but I thought it was him?
It gave clearance I think when shaping handles, maybe?
I'll try and look it up

I'm currently making a disk grinder too....(thanks weo weo )
I designed my mounting angle/plates to be mounted vertical or horizontal on my aluminum knife making stand.

If only I had longer Allen wrenches to tighten it.

You're welcome, hope it works. Are you (or have you) going to mill them flat?
I did kiss the non-rubber one on the lathe...... I "Thought it was going to be easy".... haha. I Should of known better.

*for the viewers at home, I faced off the 1 degree angle, I wanted a flat disk.

When I was facing the outer diameter of the face, the disk REALLY wanted to sing!

Very carefully, and not recommended, I kept my finger on the outer edge to dampen the slight vibrations.

It looks good, and is nice and flat, but I haven't officially tried it yet. I need to get some tube adhesive/glue

Thanks.

Thanks my friend . Nick Wheeler bag with tips and tricks is like black hole .... Maybe he's not smart enough to build a spaceship , but he has no equal when it comes to knives  I like watching his videos .
I decide to make disk from Micarta , it is lighter than aluminum and sufficiently durable .... and most importantly I have it :)
