My local bait shop has a display case of Schrade knives. There must be 20 or so in it....They are all marked USA and I imagine this case has been there for at least 5-10 years. Almost all the knives are there with only a few having been sold. Are these worth more than the retail prices marked on the display case currently?

Get all the stock #'s and then do an advanced search on the knives, then check off completed listings only. That will give you an indication of value. Not perfect but it will help you in figuring out values.

Buy them all, make the owner a deal for all of them, case included. You will probably come out ahead. Only my 02 cents, and I don't need the change.

Good Luck, nice find

Did you get to peek inside of the storage area of the case?

Other knives may be inside, and also check for empty boxes, and old catalogs and flyers. All are valuable.

I think most of the Old Timers and Uncle Henry knives are still selling for less then their last MSRP,with the exception of a few models. If the case is good shape, then that is certainly worth more on it's own.

Here is a list of the knives in the case. A woman at the store said they have been there for at least 5 years and rarely sell. I checked inside the display case and there was a small stock of the knives in the display. Not too many and not every model in the display section. Here is a list of the knives in the case:

104OT 12OT 34OT 108OT 33OT 94OT 97OT 18OT 194OT LB7

153UH 158OT 152OT CH3S 143OT 147OT SG7S SLW2 8OT 12UH

834UH 897UH CH14S CH18s SW7S SH3

She said that the owner would probably sell all of them for a discounted package price. Any idea what would be a reasonable price for all of the above?

Thanks for your help!

The knives you posted (one of each) had a last retail value in 2004 of approximately $1,000.00. The dealer cost would be about 50% of that, or $500. This does not include the display case. Without seeing it, I can't date it and approximate the dealer's cost. Also a few of those knife patterns indicate that the display and knives may be as early as 2001-2002 since a few were discontinued after that. So that is your bargaining position and their approximate investment.

Thank you for your help....

So the dealer cost would have been around $500, and the retail around $1000 in 2004. Any idea what the group would be worth today? Also, is the actual display case also desirable to collectors?

Are there any models listed above that would be rarer and more desirable?

Again, appreciate the help.

Display cases are desirable but heavy and awkward to crate and ship. I don't think any of the knife patterns listed are rare. Collectors will buy them, but not want to give much more than last MSRP if that. Today's worth? You might get the retail value in 2004. Most of those patterns are still readily available on the secondary market (like eBay), and few of us want to pony up for full retail on a full display. The displays usually do better emptied and pieced out in individual sales from what I've seen. If you can get it all for wholesale and sell at retail plus shipping you can double your money. Or you can keep it yourself until the value of the full display increases to double what it is now. How long are you willing to tie up a grand to turn it into two?
Five years? Ten? Twenty? There really are much better investments out there than knives!

Thanks for the info. I think I will let it sit there for another 6-7 years then see where the market is!

94OT 97OT 194OT LB7 153UH 158OT 152OT 8OT

Those would be worth cherrypicking. I'd say all of those patterns are pretty collectible.

Unless they are in super low traffic place, they won't last 6 or 7 more years.

I will be happy to stop by and keep an eye on them from time to time. Just post directions.
