Does anyone know where to get table top type of display stands work for Khukuir?

I have some small wine racks that I have used but would like wood or something that looks good

I have a wide range of sizes of HI Khukuris

I gave up trying to find displays...settled on a nice clean black 5 gallon Lowe's bucket for the short ones and and umbrella stand for the long ones.

If you'll do a Google search for "sword stands", there will be more than a few results. Most are inexpensive black lacquer Japanese style stands. The Japanese also used small antlers mounted on a nice wooden base that I thought looked neat (Katana Kake), but the commercial ones are plastic caca. Most trophy hunters would not consider antlers this small keepers, so they should be easy to find. I had a local guy who makes nice jewelry boxes and humidors mount a set in some nice wood and was happy with the result.
Good luck.

Tabletops work fine.
Insert firmly into the wood point first and they'll look like a steel bouquet.

I never liked those stands. If the one's you're thinking about are the ones that display the unsheathed blade, I don't likes em'.

I can imagine folks coming over and saying... "Hey, looka dat Gurkee nife lemme pick it up."

*bleed, bleed*

ugh

Then I'd have to pay to have the carpets cleaned. :(

I was just reading a thread about sword etiquette at SFI and displayed swords seem to attract gushing wounds. For some reason people don?t show the same respect for sharp bling that they do for other displayed bling. If they see a sharp object they instantly want to see if it?s sharp and usually are reminded of it for a while after.
If you don?t expect this kind of problem then the tip stuck in a piece of wood or the table or a custom made display would both be good.

Here's a link to some that are made of plexiglass. Very cheap at only a $1 a set. I know they're to small for khukuris but once you see them up close. You'll discover how easy it is to "enlarge" them to acommodate any size.

As I'm a amateur woodworker. I also design and make my own. It's interesting to come up with new ways to display my knives.

Thats brings up a question?

Does anybody know of a source for antlers? Deer or otherwise.

As stated by VML. They do make nice looking stands .

I have most of my khuks hanging off of a towelesque rack in my bedroom door. String though the belt loop, and it hangs nicely. Since I moved to a new house, had to redo the way I have everythin situated. Though, sometimes it seems I am just crawling over bladed weaponry. Id never have thought house size would be a limit to my obsessive blade collecting. :p

Although I wouldn't recommend it, I believe some folks use a series of magnetic strips to hold knives. I know some stores do. I'd insist on a glass door to keep kids out, though.

Mark?

eBay has a lot of antler listings. Bill M. is buying there these days. Some are trophy racks, others handi-craft sized. Moose, whitetail deer, and mule deer have been there, and ...not sure, maybe antelop. Good hunting.

I know that the Khukuri House in Thamel sells wooden stands (kinda cheesy, but Teak and not bad) specifically designed to display a khuk and sheath. I haven't checked out their website in a while, but I seem to recall that they include stands with blades, but don't list them seperately. It may be worth emailing them.

I just want to know how to get my hands on that gorgeous stand shown on HI's M-43 page!
