Displaying Damascus

I'd been searching for a good deal on a large Damascus knife (maybe a Bear) and I wanted to mount it on my living room wall. My wife, however, is against the idea because she thinks it will scare...unnerve...whatever, guests. And since we have friends with kids, she thinks it could be an issue.

Now when I grew up, things like this weren't a concern in the slightest. The knife would be so high that no child could reach it. My wife tells me I'm living in the past, but if our friends think someone at a dinner party is going to go nuts and murder everyone, then they've been watching too many junk television programs.

Anyone have any views on this?

Hey Confederate,
I mean no disrespect at all to your wife, but I think she's worrying wayyyy too much. There are probably many more people out there than she realizes (her friends included) who can appreciate an artistic knife being displayed in the living room, den, etc. You should have no qualms about having that knife out in the open, and I really don't think it will bother any of your houseguests, either. If it does, then you're inviting the wrong people over to your house;) Just kiddin', but you can tell your wife you just got another vote in favor of the display.:)

Cheers,
Jon

I'd be more concerned about securing it so it wasn't stolen.

Those cases look Great and you don't have to dust the knives.

How about hanging a small, un-loaded, carbine on the wall... within easy reach of anyone. Then you can put the knife wherever you want and it won't be so much of an issue.

Also, aren't dinner guests holding and using knives when they're in your house? I don't see why one on the wall should pose a problem.
