At the moment I have knives laying all over our house.
Now we are expecting a baby-boy and I need to think of a child save way to display knives.
So how do you display knives child save?

Raise 'em up and hang them on the wall or put them behind locked glass doors. If you have the space, dedicate one room to knives. But there are always knives in the kitchen, there is no substitute for vigilance. Always watch your child and logically teach them about risk and danger. Many kids can figure out how to undo "child proof" things pretty quickly, just like monkeys and apes :)

Hey congrats!
You might want to get a box for the next decade of knife storage, lol!

I purchased a large (6 foot tall) glass-shelved curio cabinet. It has a sliding door, and I added a latch and a small padlock.

This way they are still admired, and yet safely out of reach.

It depends upon the collection: Folders store compactly, fixed blades take room.

Let us know.

Parents never believe how smart and dexterous a 2 year old can be !!! Take out the curiosity factor first. let him handle a "safe" knife [dull, no point ] . Let him handle it .Let him watch as you carve a chicken for example and explain things as you go with safety always mentioned ! Repeat over and over !

My daughter is 5 now and knows not to mess with knives or guns. I don't like the hanging them high unless they are very secure due to a falling danger. If one were to somehow fall and hit something "soft" before it hit the floor. All knives in our house are put up. If I were to display them, it would be behind a locked glass door. My daughter has seen me get cut (not bad) so she doesn't like them.. She is scared of blood. She's also shot my little 32 a few times so knows they go bang.

Congrats on the expecting boy..

I’ve got two grandkids but never let the youngest out of sight!!!

Mine are on display up on built-in book shelves completely out of reach of little hands.

As an aside, there was a fellow working on a punch list from some previous remodeling work that complained he’d cut himself on a piece on display....the work he was doing wasn’t anywhere near my knives and I told him not to let the door hit him in the a$$ on his way out.

Yeah, I have a little boy, and everything dangerous (guns, knives, bows, broadheads, tomahawks) stays in my office. Best way to keep him away from it is to keep it away from him. Of course, as already pointed out, there are knives in the kitchen as well, but they are all on a mag strip on the wall, and for now he is too small to get to them.

Got to start them young...
The good news is that 12 years later, it is once again safe to have knives all over the house.
She even helped make her own chef's knife this year.

I've been looking for a way to display some of my fixed blades for a while. I found this one today on Walmart's website. It looks like it'll fit my needs and be relatively child proof.

For sure. My daughter would scale shelves like an obstacle course to get at anything interesting up high. What was interesting? Anything she could reach and drop on the floor for later inspection. A nice footlocker with a secure axis is what I'd suggest till the kids are old enough to know better.

Scary story

There was a time when I had stuff everywhere

Guns were always separated from ammo but swords and knives were st in unlocked cases etc

One day my middle daughter who was three came walking into the kitchen with the JP Moss Unforgiven Bowie that she had picked up in my gun room

It was in an unlocked case

Really scared me

She could of dropped it on her foot and taken a toe or worse

Now I am from a family that believes in education and not hiding stuff away but stupid was stupid

All knives went on locked or sealed cases or knife bags

My sword collection was bagged and went high on a wall in a rack system

they were told to ask if they wanted to see

Now my kids are older but they still have friends over so while there is a lot lying around guns are separate from ammo I have brought a lot of stuff out

Swords are off the wall etc

Better to be safe than sorry there is no rewind button in life

There’s the Unforgiven Bowie bottom right .....it’s Ben in there for 13 years :)

That's what my house will some day look like

Knives and guns aren't so bad really with young-uns.

Wait till they get to be teenagers, then the fun really starts!!! :D
