I have several Condor machetes and large fixed blade knives (think Hudson bay) that I would like to simply hang on the wall for display as artwork. Considering a light box or similar display case partially to keep the dust and curious hands off and partially as the primary display method.

Also need to be able to open the case up fairly easily (although security is more of a concern) to handle and maintain them when needed.

Anyone know of commercially available display boxes for this application? I figure there must be and it's a matter of tracking them down and coughing up the cash.

Alternatively I am not afraid to build my own if I can get a hold of plans that I like. Having them custom made is an option as well - maybe a frame shop is the place to start.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I hate having these good looking knives and machetes just sitting on a shelf. They are attractive and good pieces of work. They should be displayed if they are not going to be used. I do have a couple user machetes - they have hooks in the garage.

Thanks.

make one.

Yeah. Kinda like the idea of mounting right to the wall - but would prefer a covered deep frame/box of some sort.

Maybe on a panel.

Great chopper and machete collections!

Hmmm. The more I consider it the more viable mounting on a panel seems. It is movable. And the machetes can be mounted so that they are darn near impossible to remove without taking the panel down and loosening screws on the back. Th eonly think it does not do is protect them from air born dust etc. Not that dust is going to hurt it - just thinking about cleaning.
