Hey all, recently starting collecting knives and want to be able to see them when I'm not carrying. I have some woodworking experience and will soon have access to a shop. Anyone made their own display cases or have suggestions? Mine are all GEC and I'm thinking of a way to display the knife and tube together. Cheers!

Using the search function to look for “display” and “storage” turns up a few scattered posts, but I would love to see what ideas folks come up with in answer to your question here. You might want to add “Traditional” to the title of your post, though :)

Noted, thank you!

Edit: sorry, the comment I wrote with this didn't post for some reason.... so I'm adding it now.

Anyway, I also have this little display I found at an antique shop years ago. I'm not sure what it was originally for and I had to build the little shelves in the top, the felt covered tray inserts at the bottom, and add the lighting but it's overall a rather simple concept for a build that could easily be DIY'd. Plus it would be easy to use this as inspiration to make your own variant of it to suit your needs.

Not an open display as such, but where I store my knives ... although there are at least six other locations both inside and outside the house and Jeep where knives are laying or handily stored
Not sure how easy it is to make a wooden tool chest but I definitely couldn't make one for what I paid for this one ... although I'd be much prouder of it of course :D

This is what I use as well. Like B BrotherJim said, not an open display, but great storage solution. I made little dividers for the drawers to keep my knives from moving around when I lug the box into the living room for wipe down sessions.

This is a constant pain point for me. I’m always revising my solution because I can’t seem to get it quite right. I’ve been pretty close to doing what Heathenhymnal Heathenhymnal did up above, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’ve done cigar boxes and Gerstner chests, but I like to see them, and I have some rather large fixed blades sitting around as well.

A shadow box with a 10ga. sheet of galvanized steel in it, behind thin, but tough cloth!!
Then you can use permanent magnets, stacked as needed, to display your knives!!!
Takes up wall space, but no floor space!! Fixed blades can be displayed also!!
A glass door keeps out the dust, and it's easy to change out the knives!!!
