I thought some of you guys who are interested in machetes and brush clearing type blades might find this interesting.

Sorry, the picture would not copy, but I just saw this on a store site. (I'm a forum member, not an etailer.) Maybe these are the same people that make the inexpensive but decent slip joints???

The cutting edge is mamba style. I don't see the weight, but at 14 inches it would probably have some heft. Here's the kicker: PRICE: $7.99

And if a bear attacks, you can throw it at him.

Good question, what can you expect for 8 bucks? But then again, how bad can it be for 8 bucks? :D
Actually, I'd love to try it. If the shipping wouldn't be 5x the price of the knife, I'd buy it and have a laugh. And who knows, one might be surprised.
And a bear won't know the difference between this and a Busse! :D

Well, it is cheaper than their slip-joints, so my 1st thoughts are why & if the steel is the same.

Their slippies use 440A, but they sell for more $. They also don't have micarta scales, but they do have bone handles, so who knows.

If the steel is like or the same as what they use in their slippies, then it'll actually be a decent knife, an over 9" 440A duel edge blade. However, if it's cheaper steel, then yeah, you're probably better off throwing a rock or the $ at the bear.

You can throw anything you like at a bear. Just don't expect him to notice it much, unless it is a Koala bear.

I would not chop with a double edged blade........

Or a peanut butter sandwich, that'll get his attention for a little while. Bears are more interested in your food than in you, bears will generally avoid you as long as you stay out of their way; and are usually frightened off by loud noises. If you've done something stupid enough to get them to run at you, you're probably also stupid enough to throw a knife at one.

All the Rough Rider stuff that I have tried has been well worth the money. I wouldn't be the least bit leary to give it a try. Not at a bear though.;)
