Dissapointed in UKPK?

Hello to all,

I really love the design of the UKPK- an S30V blade, thick g10 (an odd love of mine), a great shape, and an awesome clip. I was wondering, however, if I would be disappointed getting a non-locking version of this design? Would I be happier with the Caly? I do not need to have a slippie, but again, I love the design. I'm afraid the double stop will get annoying when fondling the UKPK... Also, you cannot take the Caly apart....not something I for see having to do, but it seems like it would be weird.

If yalls think the Caly is better, which version do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice in advance,
Alex

I think UKPK is better (no steel liners). Its lighter, its completely safe with half-stop and finger choil. My UKPK pumped out Caly 3 out of rotation easily. Now half stop makes it bit less smooth to open but not by much. You get two nice snaps when you open it. I like it but then I am traditionalist :D

mine seems like it is fairly worn in, and I don't even notice the half stop when opening. I really like my UKPK, but it has been ousted from EDC by my Crusader Forge.

Why choose, get them both! The UKPK is an outstanding knife. I have not had any concerns about safety or the knife "wanting to close" during use. The double stop is not an issue once you get past the fact that it is not going to fly open like the clipit designs.

I prefer the Caly 3 because of the heavier weight and the lock. Pinned construction has never been an issue because I can take the blade out if necessary to clean around the pivot.

I've done that twice in the 2 or 3 years that I've been carrying one and it was unnecessary both times. The pivot area was nice and clean even after several hiking/camping trips and use in the warehouse and around the home place.

If you want a thumb flicker the ukpk is not the right knife.
If you don't care about this try it out.
Or even buy the cheaper frn just to try out the slipit.

Opening action is not as fast as a "locking" knife but closing is faster.
You don't have to unlock the knife so it's really easy and fast.

I have the frn ukpk and if i have to be honest i like the smoothness of the locking knife more then the stiffer slipit action.
But it is nice to have some different knives.
