Has anyone distressed or modified the factory handles to make them look cool and interesting? Some of mine are sooo plain I would love to do something to them without going the expensive custom route.

I cant see distressing it being any benefit.
Inlay something or carve something, or just change the material to something more to your liking.

I tried sanding a dymondwood handled 110 because the sides didn't match. It didn't work. And it was like sanding glue.

That’s what I was wondering. I distressed an Opinel one time and it came out great....but it was natural wood of course. Hoping someone had aged/distressed the Diamond wood with some success.

I’ve been tempted to try checkering one. Like 1911 double diamond grips.
Totally.
That was my thought when I read the OP . . . the heck with cool and interesting . . . lets get some GRIPTION on there !
(OK I like cool and interesting also :))
Filing it with a riffler file would be one good way to go. You can always wipe it with some car wax or very thin epoxy clear coat if it looks too much like filed plastic afterward.
DO NOT put the paste wax on first then expect the epoxy to stick to it !
In any case if you use epoxy clear coat get some auto body paint spray cleaner to get the whole surface immaculately degreased and super clean.
I suppose you could just buff the textured handle if you have a powered buffer. Cover that blade so if the knife is thrown across the room by the buffing wheel there will be minimal damage to by standers  :)

I have a block of wood directly below the buffing wheel when that happens, it's not a matter of if...:D

If I had one without rivets I would have already done it, but I don’t want to have to put a border around each rivet then checker around them. It would be too much of a pain.

Just lay it out so a diamond goes around them, it's so small it would be a pain to checker anyway. If it's a user I don't see the checkering holding up very well either or at least it wouldn't be worth the effort to me.

I would say a miss matched colred handle is rare? Like a person with a blue and a brown eye? Could be a collectible sub set.... lol

with diamondwood probably, with natural wood it's seen quite often.

Ahh probably cant always be helped with natural wood?
That is a part of craftsmanship making sure they match, not just slapping on whatever comes out of the box. Ive seen some folks like it but its not craftsmanship.

Ideally they are 2 half’s of the same slab perfectly aligned so the sides are identical and the knife looks like one piece of wood. But it’s not fair to expect that level of craftsmanship at Bucks price point.
