-Temporarily, anyway.

I have lucked into an opportunity to work dayshift for a couple of months. Many of you know how limiting and difficult working nights can be, so you know how excited I am to have even this tiny window to live a "normal" life for awhile. Bonus- the fact that this schedule change happens to include our Wedding Anniversary, which will allow us to stretch our getaway weekend out a few more precious hours. :)

Not that it will be all fun-n-games, mind you. I plan on using a lot of the unfamiliar daylight to get some things done around the house that piled up while I lacked usable time and/or energy.

I hope to use this occassion as a "lifestyle reset" button, and establish some better time management strategies and habits that I can continue when I once again become a denizen of the darkness.

Of course, it is yet unclear how this change will effect the real issue of concern to the Cantina: Will this shift in shift impair or enhance my sharking abilities? Stay tuned! :p

I was stuck on night shift from 1992 to 2006.

When I finally rejoined the daylight, I felt like I had been in prison for 14 years:(

I did nightshift for a mere 18 months but that included working weekends and public holidays ...no fun had by me at all. :(

As to sharking, practice makes perfect. ;)

I feel ya, man.

I work the vampire shift right now.

I'm going to start putting in for day shift jobs as they appear ont he job board at work.

I didn't want to take the 15% pay cut, but I'm not able to keep being strung out like this. This was easy when I was 19, not now.

You've been holding it in for this long?

Oh.

I guess diurnal means something else. Glad to hear you're getting a chance to recharge your batteries.

I prefer graveyard shifts when available. I feel much better going to bed at 8am than getting up at 6am. :D:p

Sleepy from the abrupt transition. I worked from ~1800 Saturday night to 0630 Sunday morning, and stayed awake until 2030 Sunday night so that I could sleep until 0400 this morning. I figured if I slept at all during the day Sunday, then I would not be able to sleep prior to my "new, improved" shift and would be groggy all day. It worked, but boy am I groggy now. Again-

I expect to be fully adjusted by the weekend- just in time to knock out some chores.

Ted- when I was a young, single man I didn't mind nightshift at all. Now that I am treasuring every moment with my lovely bride, working a schedule that is incompatible with the overwhelming majority of the civilized universe is a lot more distasteful. :grumpy:

LOL. I am no longer young, but if left to my own devices I will naturally revert to being nocturnal. I have no problem at all sleeping during the day and being awake all night.

I have a great comprimise, I work from 1600 to 0000, I get the benefit of having half of a normal daylight schedule, and the benefit of being up at night...sometimes till dawn. I am a good little vampire and have Black-out curtains over my windows, at noon it looks closer to midnight. :D
