I was wondering if any stainless steel knife could also be used as a dive knife??? most dive knives that I used Are basically mirror polished crobars.. or are based on a tactical design that would inhibit there survival implications...Also a knife that I would use to dive woith would also be the most likely to be carried by me on any adventure on or near the water ...I've very rarely used diveknives for prying, most often for mild cutting of things on the boat... or while fishing, but its nice to have something sharp incase you need to ditch some gear fast. also while on a boat or diving or kayaking or snorkeling you are at some risk of being thrown in to a situation where a good usuable survival knife might be useful. so my question iscan a stainless steel blade with proper handles and a proper sheath double as a dive capable knife if washed and cleaned properly... I don't see why it shouldn't just wanted to ask the experienced crew....In fact now that I'm writing this i think I might have already asked this question or something similar to it if so i'm sorry. If most people seem tho think this is a bad Idea I might just pick up a spyderco salt.....or I might just pick up one anyway

I was going to us my new stainless Moras for water activities...stainless steel, rubber handles, plastice sheath. Seems perfect. Some are even available with serrated blades although I haven't bought one of those yet.

The SALT is an all-around great knife. I keep one on the boat, and one on mee all summer. You just can't go wrong!

of course you can use a normal knife for diving, your knife does not know weather its in the rain or under water. As long as you wipe and dry it after diving no problem
I have made many several dive knives,,, most from stainless steel,,,cm154,,and 440c ,,and one from stelitte,,,,the stelite is probally the ultimate dive knife ,,it will practically never rust and keeps a very good edge
if you can afford it a stelite knife is the best for wet work

Sure. Look up the little Gerber River knives. I know a lot of guys that dive with those as well as use them on rivers.

I have a seal pup currently it's my go anywhere do anything knife, its awesome...but there are several tactical attributes to it that don't nec leand themselves to a practical survival blade. although it is currently my fixed blade survival knife

Ti isn't so good on the taking and holding the edge. Last I heard they are only getting up to about 40-50 rC... I didn't check your link though.

Yea, they are about 45 rc, but they should be really easy to resharp and 100% rustfree. They said on their website that not even 1 ever broke or reported to be broken.

Bechmade Makes A really nice water knife, I have used it and love it, it is on the small side for a "survival knife" but it is strong and well designed in a good secure sheath.

Since I am planning on picking up the SOG NW ranger I was thinking that this in a kydex sheath might make a good water knife

I use a plain carbon steel drop point... Like all the rest of your SCUBA gear it should be rinsed with fresh water and dried before storing. Throw a little silicone O ring lube on it and you're good to go.
