well, title pretty much sums it up. i'm looking for a virtually water/rust proof knife (maybe h1 or x15?) with a 2" (or very close, think spyderco cricket size) folder with a clip for carry. and for the rustproof, i mean everything, not just the blade: scales, screws, clip, liner... if anything like that is out there, i'd like to know about it! speaking of the cricket, i have one and love it! would this fit for what i am asking? i love little sharp as hell knives that i can stash in little places like a wallet or a keychain, and i want one i can keep with fishing/river/beach/camping stuff that getting wet wont bother it. thanks!

Spyderco forum members are discussing what they'd like to see in a small (Cricket sized) H1 folder.

thanks for the links.. i can't search. i read the a.g. russel thread the other day but couldn't see if it had a clip on it. is vg-10 able to handle salt water?

If you clean it well after every use, VG-10 will hold up well enough. I don't know what frequent exposure will do to the steel, however.

It would be a good idea to take it apart often in case salt gets built up inside it.

Mission MPF! It's a three inch blade, with two blade styles to choose from.

A bit larger than 2"- try looking for a polymer handled David Boye folder made with dendritic cobalt steel. This is as rustproof as any knife blade will get. But I do not know about its fittings.

It is bigger than you want, but I would suggest something from Spyderco Salt Series. H1 will NOT rust!!

You might be able to remove some of the tip of a Spyderco H1 Salt folder to reduce the blade length to 2", and still have a long enough handle for good control.

maybe what i'm looking for doesn't exist yet... as for shortening the blade on the spyderco salt, it still leaves me with a longer folded length than what i'm looking for.

for same purpose I wear FRN dragonfly in Aus-8. May be is not a specialist knife (like Salt series) but whorks great for me (I also wear in in waist band when running). Aus-8 has proove to be a thought steel and quite good in stain environment athough not so fine in edge holding. Frn handle is an all-proof material and so the FRN clip. Keep the wire spring oiled and it will be nfine everiwhere.
Ps son or later FRN model will be upgraded by Spyderco to another, upper level, steel and will be time for me to buy one of the last Aus-8 Dfly as a backup.

Oh, with the Mission MPF, you get an All Titanium knife and light weight.

Talonite or Stellite are materials I use all the time. Pretty good edge retention and absolutely no rust. It's what I carry.

I carry a knife with a Stellite blade in the summer for my beach knife; I swim with it. Prior to getting my Stellite bladed knife, I carried a Spyderco Salt 1.
