ok since i am a beginner,i figured i would"nt blow a ton of money on my 1st,anyway dixie gun works has a indian throwing hawk kit, regular 39.00 marked to 19.00 on sale, but the head says "wax cast steel head requires hardening and sharpening.i thought putting my own hawk together would be cool,do i have to harden it,how,in my oven?i"ll save up for a bearded axe.

For not much more you can get a cold steel hawk that is already hardened and has a decent cutting edge. They make three poll hawks now, the trail, the rifleman and their new "pipe hawk" which is actually a poll hawk. You can pick them up for around $30.00 or less depending on from who and what they charge for shipping.

well i called about every place i could think of,no hawks of any kind, cold steel knives and machetes at uncle sams outlet",guess i"ll sweet talk my wife a little and see if she will let me order over the internet.thinking about ordering one from one of the different forges,40.00 to 50.00 aint bad for a better hawk. i like the cold steel too.all the mod"s done a while back to the cold steel"s interest me.
