Howdy,

I bought these two axes, well really an axe and an axette (hatchet), and I had them hidden away in my storage.....

So, I dragged them out.....

And I decided to get all that nasty paint off....

And I found this stamp, the only marking on the axe....

But, other than being totally a mystery, they are pretty cool, and I love the shape of the heads, they make me think of like Canoe Axes for some reason....

Anyone know what they are?

And one really cool thing, the wood of the hafts is straight grained, beautiful, and get this, figured.....

Who'da thunk it?

Nice axes! they both kind of look like German itlis oxhead axes to me. I am going to guess that the 1250 is the weight in grams. Joe

Frickin' Awesome, I won't even tell you what I paid for them, or else I would have to spank myself for being a blatant thief.

They do match Iltis, the handle shape, even the gold paint. They had three layers of paint on them, gold on the bottom, then gray, then green.

Score, right from my storage space....

And I have been holding on to these for how long?

And at the same time thinking to myself, "I would like to try out one of those Iltis axes..."

Irony, sweet irony....

If these are Iltis, and the stamps indicate grams, as I think they do...

I have a "Ox-Head Iltis Europe Small Felling Axe" and a "Ox-Head Iltis Camping Hatchet".

What a find...

I AM JAZZED!!!!!!

I felt that I was onto something good, when I tapped the steel of the heads, and they ring real nice, so I felt I was dealing with a good heat treat.

Then, when I stripped the handles, and the wood was figured, I knew that I was not playing around with crappy stuff from China.....

And the gold paint had me intrigued, because I figured they were military surplus.....

Nice....

Hey Marion,
Nice score on the axes. Not to change the subject, but any chance you can swing by Black Sheep today? If not, please try to give me a call today. I have some questions for you. Thanks.

Those axes look awesome! Thanks for the before and after pics. The green paint made them look groose but now they are great!! Good find.
