Hi All,

Just wanted to share a link to a video of a convex sharpening jig I built over the weekend. It is very simple and cost less than $15 to make (not including stone). The results were quite sharp. Enjoy

Thanks

Heh, that looks pretty sweet. It's the Lansky Convex! Patent that sh*t and share the money, err, love.

How exactly does that put a convex edge on the knife?

Pardon my illustration, I hope it helps. You'll notice from the picture below that the guide rod is bent about 3 degrees past 90. The angle of the rod is what creates a variable angle on the blade as it moves through a full stroke. In my case, the blade is set at about 19 degrees at the beginning, gradually dropping to about 17 degrees at 1/2 stroke and returning back to 19 degrees at end of stroke. My reason for building it is quite simple. I prefer the traditional method of sharpening as well as the convex edge, but I'm horrible at convexing. This setup has been very helpful and I've been very happy with the results.

Thanks
rogerquin
