Maybe an alternative to more expensive systems?

As someone who had a dust collection fire this last weekend... it's something you really dont want. I use all metal stove pipe and ducting components up to my brand new all metal cyclonic separator and metal catch bucket, and keep combustibles away from the system. You need to remember that when something catches fire with a running dust collection system, its just like having your forge blower on full blast, all the oxygen it could want to rapidly consume every bit of combustible material near it.

Make sure your fire extinguisher is readily available. Spending 500$ on a dust collection system might seem like a lot, but it will feel REAL cheap if you burn down your shop or get lung problems down the road.

My 'catch bucket' is a floor grate duct.
