DIY Forge.... Lining Bricks

So looking at making my own forge. I want to make one large enough to accommodate a large blade, and hot enough to forge weld.

I'm thinking a 2 or 3 burner LP, haven't decided on building vs. buying burners yet, although it seems cheaper to buy them vs. trying to source parts individually in Covidland.

I've all but settled on soft fire brick. My only major hangup is being able to forge weld. Most of my research indicates that the Flux will quickly cause the bricks to deteriorate.

I really don't want to screw around with Kaowool or similar linings, mostly for health reasons, but cost as well.

Will using something like ITC100 seal it enough? What's the workaround for this?

Welcome ToMang07. Is your profile age correct 91? By your username, I would guess you were you born in 2007?

Put a 1/2" layer of any flux resistant refractory on the floor.
Castolite-30, Bubble Alumina ( my favorite), Plistix, or a piece of kiln shelf.

HTT&R has everything you will need.

Neither, lol, but my age is irrelevant.

I'll check out that site, I'm unfamiliar with it.

You age is relevant. The forum requires a correct age to become a member. It was a requirement when you joined. If you lied, your account will be closed.
