After completing my first kit knife I found I could not sharpen the recurve blade on my India stone. After searching through various methods I was fixing to get a spyderco sharp maker, but then I though of this:

If you have a miter saw or a way to cut accurate angles you can easily put this together. I cut two blocks at a 15 degree angle and mounted them to a board. I then cut to drumsticks to glue against the 15 degree angles. Started at 220 grit to reprofile then worked up to 1500 grit (highest I had). The result was a shaving sharp edge, the sharpest I've ever been able to put on a knife myself.

It wasn't until I finished that I thought about maybe making the angles closer to 20 degrees. The result is a wicked slicer, I just hope it lasts.

That's pretty slick. I like it. :)
I have an alternative idea to throw out there for you. I made a crock stick base from a 2X4 for my lansky set. Using a table mount drill press, I tilted the base at variable angles and drilled holes for the lansky ceramic sticks to fit in. So, instead of the 40 and 50 inclusive the original set uses, I now have 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50.

Now, if you wrap the sticks with denim as you have with sandpaper, viola! it's a strop. Add a little Mothers Mag polish or, diamond spray to the denim. Watch those edges pop. There are a whole lot of possibilities with this rig. Way cool.......

Bighaze- I think I can visualize that, I might just have to try and make something like that to get different angles for my other blades. Thanks for the tip!

303- I've never tried my hand at stroping before but I think you may have just convinced me to give it a try!
