Hello everyone!

This is my first knife post ever, but I like to share my Kukri knife mod with you.

It started when I got an old beaten up Kukri from my father in law that he purchased some 20 years ago. I decided to try my "knife making skills" which I had none!, but learned from forums and YouTube... This is the result.

I decided to make the handle from firewood and a the pommel and finger guard from a block of solid aluminum.. The process of "sculpting the aluminum proved to be harder than I had imagined.

After some work the knife handle started to show. I threaded the tang and put a brass end on the knife.

After polishing and epoxy the handle was done.

I also tried to etch my name in the pommel but I’m not so happy with the result.

The sheath was also in bad shape. The old goatskin had torn and was dry and brittle. I used the old wood insert as the base and took the Cardura knee patches from a pair of my old work pants as the new wrap around the wood.

I reused some of the old goatskin on the bottom of the sheath and also the "belt hanger".

Last I put a safety snap to hold the knife in place made from rubber (Viton).

Hope you enjoyed the post!

Regards

John

Not bad, not bad at all.
The alu and wood came out well.
I quite like the idea of using the old wood inserts for the new sheath.
Considering the utilitarian nature of the issue blades to the troops, the practical and 'business-like' look of the sheath is quite fitting. Almost like a homage to the issued knives.
Well done.
