Has anyone ever tried using steel dust off the grinder, along with vinegar to make a black leather dye? I could use steel wool, but I have all this free 1084 steel dust laying around. Thanks

It should work just fine. Search for my vinegaroon thread. It doesn't address your question directly, but has other information on the topic.

I'm making myself a belt and will probably use it.

It's fairly disgusting, but man does it work well.

I'll have to look up your thread to see how it all works. And I'll have to start collecting some of the dust from my shop rather than just vacuuming it up. I'm almost out of commercial dye and figured I would give it a go.
