DIY Leather Mask for a Council Hudson Bay Axe

Decided to complete a project I've been lagging on. I had a bag of leather scraps and a Council tool Hudson Bay axe, so I decided to make a leather mask for it and remove the pain and then reprofile the head.

I know it's very very crude, but I have no skills. Hopefully my next one will be better.

I'm really lazy so I just decided to use pop rivets on it. Just coated the axe with paint stripper and just the waiting game now until I take it to the belt grinder. Then I'll sand down the handle and coat it with boiled linseed oil.

I'll be uploading a video of this on my channel this weekend, if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpSMxjpWFk_B3Np7cnkjnBA

Got most of the paint removed. Tomorrow I"m taking it to the sander and make a look pretty like a Velvicut. Then sand the handle and oil.

Looks good to me. Maybe it's not as nicely finished as some of the work of some of the really talented members here, but it doesn't look sloppy and it looks very functional. I'll probably try to do something similar with the axes that I've recently bought. I look forward to seeing your diy velvicut finish.

Thank you brother! I really appreciate that. Initially I did it to save some money but it was really fun working on it. When you finish your DIY please post some pictures!
