KooKoo, while not my cup-of-tea, it looks like it'll get the job done. It'll protect the edge and you from getting cut.

Vinyl lasts around 15 years in open weather. Check.
Aluminum rivets lasts forever. Check.
Duct tape? Reapply when needed. Check.
Prepared for zombie apocalypse. Check.

I have these two Ontario's and one 18" and 22" Ontario and they are great values for some heavy duty machetes and made in the USA. At about $15-20 each depending, what's not to love?
