Edited to try to fix pictures
I have had this mini griptilian 556 in 154cm for several years. I really like the size, it's smooth as can be and a free dropper with zero blade play. I really liked everything about it except the blade grind. For a long time I just had it sharpened by a knife shop at the factory angle. Recently I became more obsessed with knives and learned more about sharpening, grinds etc.
I decided I wanted to make this knife into a better slicer.
I forgot to take before pictures but I think everyone knows what the standard mini grip looks like.
Before the factory angle on the blade was about 52 degrees inclusive and the blade measured 0.042" behind the edge.
My regrind ended up as almost a full convex grind, the spine stayed the same thickness and from there to the original swedge was thinned a bit then really thinned from there to the edge. After I sharpened to about 35 degrees inclusive, new thickness behind the edge is 0.015". Difference in cutting performance is huge! I really like the results for my first attempt at modifying a blade.
Next I am considering doing an acid stonewash to hide some of the imperfections. Also slated for the project are OD Green Canvas Micarta scales and a new deep carry clip if it ever shows up from BM
