Sorry but I don't want to get in trouble for assisting user to disassemble their knives and void warranty.

Awesome tutorial, Estate!

The notepad trick is a great idea. I just wobbled and twisted mine until it popped off, but the second one took a good 10 minutes.
My only other trouble came from my previous disassembly: I put too much loctite on the scale screw threads, and once I got one side loose, the spacer would spin with the other. That was some fun.

Thanks for pointing out the D-side of the pivot tube. I didn't really think about it, and was careful to put it back from where it came. But I could see how it would be trouble if you dropped a couple parts or had to do something else (cook dinner? go to work?) before you were able to come back and reassemble.

Thanks for the how to photos. They gave me a much better understanding of the PM2. It seems like the design is self centering with the spacers and screws just needing to be snugged. Where do you recommend blue lock tite, if anywhere at all?

What are some options / vendors for replacement scales?I found a couple with google but would like a recommended source from the forum.

Good stuff.

I like to loctite all my fasteners when I take things apart. My trouble is it really doesn't take much.

I got my micarta scales from Luke at Cuscadi - he does amazing work. I believe he also does G10 and various woods.
I have seen aluminum from a couple others - John Grimsmo and Allen Putman (sometimes available through BHQ.)
All are highly regarded by those who have them.

Nice tutorial, Estate! The PostIt trick is pretty cool - I'll have to try that next time. I've been using a 1/4" wooden dowel as a pin-punch to push out the thong tube. It works very will and doesn't damage the hardware.

The real trick is to avoid the temptation to use a pair of vise-grips to twist the tube out. No matter how badly you want to pick up the pliers - DON'T DO IT! You'll end up damaging the tube.

Thanks for the great tutorial estate! I used it to take apart mine and put some nice moonglow scales on.
