I found this article on DIY sandblaster.

http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/07/how_to_homemade_sandblast_boot.html

I was wondering if it could be made even simpler buy using a shop vac for pressue, necking down the outlet into something like a crevice tool. Attaching a funnel into the crevice tool so that the airflow pick up the media.

To use you would fill up the funnel with a cup left indise, hit the shop vac power, then refill when you ran out of media.

Thoughts?

A shop vac won't produce enough velocity/pressure for sandblasting, really need a compressor with a reasonably-sized tank. Not that big an investment.

But there's a lot more skill needed to get a good sandblasting job than meets the eye ..... a lot of the people out there doing it commercially aren't very good, in my experience. If all you want to do is remove rust, paint, or blast beer mugs (?) it's probably no big deal, but if it's a valued blade or firearm, take it to someone who can show you quality work they've done. JMHO.
