Greetings!
Like most of my friends, I too spent a considerable part of my childhood playing rpg-s. Some people say that it's a waste of time, doing nothing in front of a soulless computer, watching a crudely rendered, pixel-king barbarian running around, wielding two axes, but I respectfully disagree with them. Games like the Diablo and Gothic series were the main cause which turned my attention to medieval times, most accurately to medieval weapons. I know they are mostly fantasy games, but somewhere they are all rooted in reality, and anyway, fantasy is what opens up a persons mind, not a book, packed with dry facts and accurate dates.
Well a good axe can also open a persons mind, but that's an other story
Those who played the game, surely remember these toys:
So I was quite excited when a friend of mine asked me to make Diablo-ish axes. Beside my excitement I also had a huge amount of thrill and fear, since I only made small, folded viking type axes, but these required a whole new technique. Because of their end spike, they demanded a hole not formed by wrapping and forgewelding, but punched directly into the steel. Which was a real challenge to me!
And so it came to pass that the...
And after countless hours of experimenting, sweating and hammering in my humble den of evil, I created these prototypes:
The pointy axe head is 25.5 cm long, its edge is 8 cm and the shaft 44.5 cm. Its weight is 827 grams. It has 50 layers of 5160 and L6 steels.
The dull ended axe head is 22 cm long, its edge is 8 cm, and the shaft 45 cm. Its weight is 713 grams. It has 100 layers of 5160 es L6 steels.
Hope you guys like them.
