DLC black coating on the PM2

I'm thinking of getting a PM2 with the black DLC coating. Is it safe for food prep? I've read somewhere before that it's usually not a good idea to use coated blades for food prep. How does the DLC coating hold up? and is there any advantage over the satin blade other than it looks better?

If you Google the question you'll find numerous answers to it, all pointing to food safe. Also the one thing that really sucks about DLC is that it's not satin, and is, accordingly, aesthetically inferior ;)

As long as you clean the blade properly I don’t see why a DLC blade would be any different than a non coated blade. You will be fine with either.

Compared to satin finish, there has been discussion about the tendency of DLC to bind when cutting certain materials (e.g. thick dry rubber). Sounds logical when you feel the difference between DLC vs satin. However, I haven't personally encountered a material where I can tell the difference yet.

I have not tried that cutting comparison so I cannot comment. But, my two SPyderco folders with a DLC blade (a Military and a PM2) are smoother than all their respective variants with a satin blade. That seems to indicate DLC reduces the friction.

The only time I can tell a difference is when I'm using my shirt to wipe the blade off. Satin, it wipes off smoothly. DLC, doesn't wipe well with a shirt because of the friction.

Should be food safe.

Main reason why I don't like DLC. Feels very different.

I am one that likes the look of DLC knives out of the box but not after use. No matter what I clean them with they never are that original black again. As for food use i would not be afraid at all.
